The MagnaShear™ Oil Shear Motor Brake is designed for those difficult stopping and holding applications. Multiple disc oil shear technology delivers superior dynamic braking, high thermal capability, and 2 - 5 times longer life with no adjustment - ever. The MagnaShear™ Oil Shear Motor Brake is also excellent for positioning accuracy and repeatability.

Using 115 VAC electric power to release the spring set brake eliminates the need for compressed air. Wire directly into the auxiliary contacts in your motor starter. This is handy where air is not available or where it is impractical to run airlines, plumbing and valves.

The motor mounted MagnaShear™ Oil Shear Motor Brake is designed to mount directly onto a standard double ended NEMA brake motor – often called a “brakeless brake motor.”

The same unit pre-mounted to a motor and ready to use is called an assembled brake motor, or EBM.

The flange mounted MagnaShear™ electric brake is designed to fit special mounting flanges and shaft designs, including splined, step, metric, or others. Several designs are currently available for a wide variety of equipment, and new designs can be readily developed.

For those very difficult applications, the The MagnaShear™ Oil Shear Motor Brake can be furnished with several options.

Available Options:

Washdown – meets the intent of IP56, and IP66. Includes Steel It coating, nickel plated shafts, Stainless Steel fasteners, Stainless Steel Conduit Box, and sealed connectors. Can be ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) type certified.

• Applications - Shipboard winches and cranes, offshore marine applications, food processing, chemical plants, or anywhere highly corrosive, or extremely wet environments are present.

Special mounting or shaft configurations

• Step shaft, splines, metric shafts, special mounting flange

Voltage Options - 115VAC or 230VAC

Additional Information:

Electrical - A spring-set brake stack is released when 115 VAC or 230 VAC (depending on model) power is supplied to the MagnaShear™ Brake. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Control is used to minimize heat buildup. Control logic is made simple by using the motor starter auxiliary contacts. Back EMF effect from the motor windings is eliminated.

Split Clamped Quill - This unique shaft mounting connection is a keyless connection that provides 360 degree clamping on the shaft. This eliminates worn keys and keyways excellent for reversion applications.
