Pre-programmed servo system allows plug-and-play conversion to servo drive, controls up to eight axes

PosiDrive® servo system eliminates complexity, integration costs and programming code with industrial-strength servomotors operated by pre-programmed touch screen interface

June 2004 - PosiDrive® pre-programmed servo systems simplify conversion to servodrive, allowing true plug-and-play application. User-friendly design is extended with a new, multi-axis option enabling up to eight drives to be controlled by one interface. PosiDrive systems feature a pre-programmed touch-screen interface (TSI) that allows machine setup, tuning and trouble-shooting through easy-to-follow menus without having to learn complex servo programming, write code, or run proprietary software on a PC or notebook computer. UL and CE approved, PosiDrive servo systems are available in fractional to 20 hp packages with the TSI preprogrammed to the particular application. Preprogrammed systems cover a wide range of industrial operations, including such difficult installations as flying shear, cut-to-length, thermoformer indexing, and in-line tube cut-off.

A standard PosiDrive® system combines an industrial-strength 450V servomotor and digital amplifier/controller with a pre-programmed TSI. The optional multi-axis package, enabling up to eight drives to be run from one screen, features TFT (thin film transistor) color display, reliable Linux operating system, and comes Ethernet-ready.

A PosiDrive® TSI enables comprehensive control over drive parameters and motor efficiency. A touch of the screen changes index speeds, distance, accel/decel, sets offset or engages jog. The TSI monitors component performance for process optimization, reports faults for fast trouble-shooting, and provides 10-fault history for trend analysis.

PosiDrive®'s RA servomotors are high-efficiency, low-inertia brushless designs giving high frequency response. Neodymium iron boron magnets deliver superior performance with low cogging. Critical to design durability, a resolver for motor feedback provides higher temperature range and superior ruggedness over encoder designs. Encapsulated windings give excellent heat dissipation and component integrity. Industrial-grade, waterproof cables and connectors meet IP65 standards.

The RS Amplifier/Controller features smart circuitry to optimize servo motor power delivery and efficiency, while protecting against short circuit, under/over voltage, over current and over temp. A built-in line filter saves on integration of at least nine additional components. The amplifier is protected for industrial environments by a rugged metal case and anti-static ESD construction.

The new PosiDrive family was robustly engineered for high reliability by Force Control Industries, a leader for over 25 years in motion control innovations for the toughest and most demanding industrial applications. Custom programming and engineering are available for special requirements.
